Roche Diagnostics Graz – Calibration solutions production plant

back

VTU delivered a new innovative calibration solutions production plant for Roche Diagnostics in Graz. VTU represented a partner for the development of the production process, plant turnkey delivery and plant qualification to Roche Diagnostics Graz.

Roche Diagnostics Graz itself embodies the research, development and production centre for blood gas- and electrolyte analysis systems. The main target is to put highly innovative solutions combined with simple usability to the client’s disposal. Due to this reason the development of a new Point of Care blood gas and electrolyte Cartridge Analyzers is performed at the moment. These innovative and simple usability solutions implicate a higher complexity to the production process.

VTU had been tasked with the development of this new production process in the fourth quarter of 2006. As a first step technical and economical feasibility studies have been carried out. Afterwards the technical feasibility had been evaluated close to the final production scale in VTU’s own pilot plant station. Despite very high solution quality requirements the technical feasibility could be proven.

The plant delivery contract was signed in the second quarter of 2007. Production at Roche Diagnostics Graz could be started on time and fulfilled the performance demands. Parallel, the plant qualification had been performed.

The exact measurement sensor calibration and periodic system checks utilise liquids that feature exact predictable and constant partial pressures of CO2 an O2 at 37° C and exact predicable pH-values. This defined partial pressure has to be absolutely independent of c atmospheric pressure differences caused by different geographic application areas (utilisation on sea level or in the high plains of Mexico).
