Ammonia Scrubber

Several processes in the chemical and the metal industry produce waste gases with high concentrations of ammonia. Typically, such gases are scrubbed with acid. This approach however produces waste water that is polluted by ammonia salts.
VTU Engineering developed a process to recover ammonia by scrubbing with pure water. The product is a solution of NH3 in water that can be re-used in the process or concentrated by distillation.
The key advantages of this process are:
- Economical recovery of NH3
- No chemical additives required
- No waste water
- NH3 concentration in purified gas compliant with regulations
VTU Engineering successfully delivered three plants of this kind for raw gases with 13% to 25% of ammonia and achieved concentrations < 2 mg/m3 in the clean gas.
