coolox®: Excellent Water Treatment
The coolox® process developed by VTU for wastewater treatment has been awarded the “Wasserland Steiermark Preis 2010” as an innovative and effective technology.
VTU was awarded the “Wasserland Steiermark Preis 2010” on March 22nd, the World Water Day. The award, which stands as a symbol for extraordinary involvement in all aspects of the valuable resource of "Water", honours innovative ideas and effective projects in all aspects of the topic of water. VTU received the award for its innovative coolox® wastewater treatment.
Company founder Dr. Michael Koncar accepted the award and at the same time emphasised the high importance of research and development at VTU: “We dealt with innovations right from the first day and successfully implemented several technologies. coolox® is one of our most recent developments in a discipline that is becoming more and more important, because water is a scant resource. Innovative, economically justifiable technologies for the treatment of wastewater must be available in the future for commerce and industry."
An effective solution to the pollutant problem
coolox® wastewater treatment is an intelligent process based on Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP). With a clever combination of UV radiation, electrochemical treatment and catalysis, even persistent and toxic pollutants are broken down in an environmentally friendly way without adding dangerous chemicals. Compared to other processes for wastewater treatment, coolox® has important advantages. With filtration, for example, the pollutants are only separated, and the filtered material therefore requires further treatment. However, with the coolox® process, the pollutants are rendered harmless without any residue thereby effectively solving the problem of pollutants. There are a wide range of application areas for coolox® systems. In particular, they are used for the treatment of problematic wastewater from the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
